Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.
Eighth, in September 2010, on the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club
trip to Croatia in the 1976 Daimler Avon-Stevens Convertible.
Again, we were one of the first to arrive at the hotel and well settled into our room by the time most of the other cars started to arrive. The Daimler was closeted away in the underground car park: a great boon for me because I could then leave the hood down. Our Hotel, the Riu Blue Waves on the outskirts of Malinska, was well appointed and very comfortable. It took quite some navigational skill to find your way around as there were so many different levels. The Reception Area also seemed to be largely detached from the rest of the hotel. The Restaurant was near the beach, two levels down, and had no covered access: great if the weather is fine, but not so good in the rain.
The main bar was down by the beach and was the congregation point for the group prior to dinner on the first night. The restaurant was self service buffet style, with waitress service. There was a good varied choice of food that satisfied most appetites. The hotel itself was designated as four star, but the food was more typically of “resort catering” standard. I personally always found something that appealed to my taste. This was our first “proper” night together as a group and we continued the steep learning curve of trying to remember some of the many names displayed on our name badges. This is when you realise just how much senility is setting in! Marilyn and I had met some of the group on previous trips, but most were new to us.
