Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.
Ninth, in September 2011, on the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club trip to Austria in the 1976 Daimler Double Six Avon-Stevens Convertible.
Day Eight, Wednesday 7th September.
On the move again and a pleasant drive to the Hotel Bayerischer Hof on the Island at Lindau on Lake Constance (Bodensee). The weather wasn't particularly inspiring and this was to be the first day of travel with the hood up. The travel in Austria was punctuated by lots of traffic, road works and getting stuck behind tractors and this run was no exception. The early part of the drive was very busy, via Zell am See, Saalfelden and St. Johann. Once on the motorway to skirt around Innsbruck, the progress was faster, but it was only when we headed for the Alberg Pass that the traffic really thinned out. We then continued over the Hochtannberg Pass towards Bregenz. This was a lovely drive. We had our first picnic of the trip going over the Arlberg, although it was far too windy to sit outside the car. We clocked up 261 miles by the time we reached Lindau and the glorious view out over the lake.
Dinner was DIY, so we explored lots of restaurants and eventually ended up having an excellent meal at our own Hotel in the terrace bar/brasserie. It was sheer delight to be able to sit out on our balcony overlooking the harbour and watch the world go by.
Picnic almost at the top of the Arlberg Pass.
