The Garage Fire.
September 2007 in the single garage where
our Rolls-Royce was stored.
We returned from our wonderful trip to Northern Spain, in the Daimler Double Six Convertible, to find that an electrical fire (the dehumidifier) had caused extensive damage to car and garage. The only reason that the fire didn't spread was that the garage is so well sealed. The oxygen supply was used up and the fire went out. However, the garage and car, including the interior, were covered in a thick layer of acrid smelling toxic oily soot. The following pages show the extent of the damage. The car should have been written off, but has been recovered. Although the Insurance Company arranged much remedial work, such as respray of the front wing and "professional valet", the car was still in a poor state. Considerable time has been spent in re-cleaning the interior and restoring the leather. All the chrome from the waste line up has been badly damaged and cannot be returned to the pre-fire condition.
