Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.
Tenth, in September 2012, during the Alvis International Weekend at Cardiff in the 1949 Carbodies Drophead Coupé.
Saturday 8th September. Part Two.
We had opted to do the Longstone Classic Tyres Tour. It was a glorious sunny day and we had the hood down all day. This was over 120 miles for the full trip, but we decided not to do the final leg down the Wye valley (done many many times before). Even so, we still clocked up over 95 miles. The first stop was the Big Pit coal mining museum at Blaenofan. This was a fascinating place, and previously visited on one of the Alvis Welsh Weekends many years ago. On this occasion, we didn't go underground as our bodies aren't quite as flexible as they were! We had coffee outside the main museum above the pit and then explored the museum.
The drive from the Big Pit to the Crown Inn at Pantygelli was delightful and very hilly. We had decided not to do the visit to Early Engineering as the car knows this wonderful outfit very well. We had an excellent lunch at the Crown, lingering to enjoy the atmosphere. The drive back to the Hotel was also most enjoyable, with very little traffic and an interesting route around the West of Cardiff, thus missing the heavy traffic in the centre of the town. We had arrived back early enough for us to explore the Bay area of Cardiff. This is about ten to fifteen minutes walk from the Hotel and full of restaurants. The day was completed by an excellent Gala Dinner in the Hotel.
The Red Dragon Centre and the Bay Area, lots of Restaurants.
