Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.

Eighth, in September 2010, on the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club

trip to Croatia in the 1976 Daimler Avon-Stevens Convertible.

Our plan for the second day, Monday 15th, was to take the ferry across to the island of Cres. The port of Valbiska was only about 15 minutes drive and the crossing another 30 minutes. On arrival, we headed first of all into Cres Town, explored along the seafront, but only stopped briefly. We had intended then to drive down to the southern end of the Island. However, after consulting the map, I decide that an excursion to Martinscica on the west coast might be more interesting. We found this to be a delightful sleepy little fishing village with wonderful views out over the sea and several good restaurants along the front. We treated ourselves to a light lunch and relaxed, enjoying the feeling of really being on holiday at last.

Lots and lots of parking and several good restaurants with great sea views.

One of the most interesting things about Martinscica was the total absence of English. The restaurant menus were in Croatian, Italian and German: a great opportunity to dust off my German. Almost everywhere else we visited during the holiday expected English speaking visitors. Most of the visitors to this particular village seemed to be Italian. Anyway, having lingered for quite a while in the glorious hot sunshine, there was no time to explore the island of Cres any further. We returned to the Ferry at Merag, drove on without any wait, and were back at the hotel in time to laze by the pool for an hour or so before preparing for dinner. This was to be the first of the “themed” evenings, with an interesting spread of Croatian cuisine.
