Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.
Eighth, in September 2010, on the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club
trip to Croatia in the 1976 Daimler Avon-Stevens Convertible.
Friday 17th was our last day at the hotel and the morning was taken up with the “photocall” for all the cars and participants. By now the weather had really deteriorated and it was getting wetter and wetter. I drove our car up out of the garage to join the line-up and then had to erect the hood rather rapidly as the rain was now relentless. It took quite some time to arrange all the cars. The best vantage point for photos was at the top of a steep bank. I have to admire all the men who were brave enough to clamber up there, not realising how difficult it would prove to get down again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have some interesting video.
The "Stars" of the show.
The weather was definitely not suitable for open topped motoring and we decided to have another relaxing day prior to the long journey home. Marilyn spent some time in the reception area keeping in contact with the world on her laptop. I checked out the car. It wasn’t long before it was time to prepare for the final Gala Dinner. The rain was a real challenge because it is impossible to get to the bar or restaurant without going out into the rain: an amazing oversight by the hotel’s designer. The dinner was very successful, including a live Croatian folk group to serenade us. Our table certainly consumed rather a lot of wine! It was a wonderful conclusion to a most enjoyable holiday. The management had even made a special Jaguar cake which was served at the end of the dinner.
The Gala Dinner, the Band and the wonderful Jaguar cake.
Many bottles of red wine later!
