Marilyn and David's Wedding Anniversaries.
Eighth, in September 2010, on the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club
trip to Croatia in the 1976 Daimler Avon-Stevens Convertible.
There was still quite a lot of the island that we hadn’t yet explored, so Thursday was to be Vrbnik. The weather had started to change and it wasn’t quite so sunny. However, it was still very pleasant with the hood down and we had an enjoyable drive into Vrbnik. Once again, we found this extremely touristy and busy. We explored the newer part of the town down to the cliff edge, and then walked into the older, pedestrian only, part. This was most intriguing, as we managed to get lost! It seemed at one stage that every little passage we tried came to a dead end. Eventually, we ended up in allotments by the cliff edge and were able to see the old church up at the top of the old town. I knew that we should be able to find our way out if we could get back to the church! Well, thankfully, we did find our way out to the edge of the old town. By now, we were rather hot and tired and a sit down for refreshments was most welcome.
A view of Vrbnik from the cliff edge. The car at the harbour in Silo.
We continued on to Silo and a delightful sheltered harbour: another great photo location for the car. All throughout our travels we occasionally caught sight of one of the other cars parked, occupants very often ensconced in one of the local hostelries. This to me is the ideal for touring: you know that others in the group are around, but you don’t have to travel in convoy (which I hate). Our journey continued to Soline, which is on the edge of a large enclosed bay. The scenery was even more dramatic now because of the large build-up of heavy black clouds over the mainland in the distance. We finished our exploration at Cizici and Ridine, further round the bay. It was becoming ever cloudier as we headed north and we decided to return to the hotel, and the sun.
