Trip to South Africa for Toby
and Maritza's Wedding at the Silver Sixpence.
1st to 9th June 2016.
Based at the Kloppenheim Country Estate Hotel.
Monday 6th June.
After a late breakfast, we set off for the Blyde River
Canyon, heading out again on the N4 towards Nelspruit. It was a long drive and
we made a comfort stop in Sabie, plus bought some food and drink for a picnic.
The roads were mainly quite good and the scenery was spectacular. We passed
through Graskop and on up the R532, then the R534 to "The Pinnacle", a
vertical rock pillar at the start of the Blyde Canyon. We had our picnic lunch
there, before heading further to "God's Window". This has a breath-taking view
out over the vast green carpeted Blyde River Canyon.
As time was by now running out and Marilyn couldn't really
appreciate the views because of the walking involved, we headed back to the
hotel via Lydenburg, Dullstroom and Belfast (the Mpumalanga Panorama Route). This involved going over the Longtom Pass at 2150 metres. About a 250 mile round trip and we arrived home
after dark. Outside lights, blankets and fires had been switched on by the
wonderful housekeeping staff. An amazing coincidence at God's Window was that
we met up with Tina, Roger and family. Tina is one of Sue's oldest friends.
They had gone up to Hazyview from the wedding and were due to go into the
Kruger the following day.
