Driving home from Pescara, Italy in Alvis Drophead FCO 154.
Day Nine. 12th September.
The drive to Hotel Carillon, Feriolo, Lake
Maggiore.
Once again a good filling breakfast and a glorious sunny
day for our drive to Lake Maggiore. From previous experience of this area of
Northern Italy, so busy and industrialised, we again decide to stick to the
motorway until the south end of Maggiore. The roads were very busy and around
Milan, not at all pleasant. However, once the bottom end of the lake hove into
view, things were different. And this time we were able to enjoy driving along
the edge of the lake. Having lunch beside the water was magical and there was
a great temptation to linger.
As so often seems the way, we were the first to arrive
at the Carillon and installed by the owner in a room which was very suitable for
Marilyn. Sitting on the balcony and soaking up the wonderful view out over the
lake was sheer joy. Our afternoon tea seemed all the better. Again, the hotel
was not geared up for dinner and we were transported to a very busy restaurant
to have an excellent dinner sitting outside in the balmy evening.
Lunch stop beside the lake.
