Alvis Holidays.
Driving home from Pescara, Italy in Alvis Drophead FCO 154.
Day Eight. 11th September.
At Hotel Miranda.
Again a good breakfast, but before that I was up early
to find out what was causing the horrendous high pitched squeal in the car
brakes. It turned out that one of the locknuts holding the transfer bar on the
n/s front brake second shoe had worked loose and was rubbing on the brake
drum. It had made a very impressive groove in the drum!!!!!! However, all
easily fixed and re-adjusted for the rest of the trip. As an aside, the brakes
were tested with an emergency stop the next day when John and Pauline in the
TA14 Tickford stopped unexpectedly (to me anyway) and we came to a halt with
tyres squealing loudly.
Most of the group went off on their travels during the
day, either on the lake or by car. We enjoyed the lovely pool, quite a
challenge for Marilyn to get to, but worth it. That evening we had a reception
on the terrace, followed by another good dinner in the restaurant. The staff
at the hotel were again very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Sadly this was to be the end of the road for Gez and
Mick's TA14 Tickford as the water pump had failed. In addition, Stephen and
Sue needed to fly home for family reasons, so the TA14 was repatriated and
Mick and Gez continued on with Stephen's TE drophead.
Drinks on the terrace.
