Alvis Holidays.
Driving home from Pescara, Italy in Alvis Drophead FCO 154.
Day Ten. 13th September.
At Hotel Carillon.
A busy day with a boat excursion on the lake. A small
launch took us on a fascinating visit to 2 of the Island in the lake. Boarding
the boat was quite a challenge for Marilyn, requiring lots of balancing. It
was very warm and sunny: a perfect day to be on the lake. The first stop was
the Isola Bella, where most of the group went around the Palace and gardens,
then explored the island. Marilyn and I found a shady restaurant on the
waterfront where we sat having a coffee and watched the world go by. It was
soon lunch time, so we remained there and had a leisurely lunch as well. I
then explored the island while Marilyn sat.
Our next stop was the Isola Madre where the Palazzo
Borromeo and gardens are a major attraction. This would have involved an
enormous amount of walking, so we stayed at the restaurant/bar near to the
landing stage while the others explored. Finally we boarded the boat for
the journey back to our hotel. Dinner was at another restaurant in Feriolo, right
beside the lake: again a very good meal, and taxi transportation.

An interesting sight from our balcony, a flying boat picking up water to fight
a forest fire.
