Alvis Holidays.
Driving home from Pescara, Italy in Alvis Drophead FCO 154.
Day Thirteen. 16th September.
The drive to Hotel Europe, Horbourg-Wihr,
Colmar.
Almost the last to leave and in no hurry. We had decided
that the motorways would be the easiest option again, although there are an
awful lot of tunnels in Switzerland! We skirted round Zurich, Baden and Basel,
making excellent time towards Mulhouse. The hotel was situated just outside
Colmar in the Horbourg-Wihr district. Unlike the other hotels, our room wasn't
ready when we arrived and we had to wait until 15.45. We discovered that many
of the group had also tried to check in. We explored the surrounding
area to find somewhere for refreshments.
This hotel was clearly set up to cater for large groups
and staff were not particularly helpful. Our room was an extraordinarily long
way from reception and a major marathon for Marilyn. I managed to find a
baggage trolley and unloaded all our luggage in one go. The hotel facilities
were more than adequate and the room was very comfortable. Dinner the first
night was in our own separate part of the restaurant and we enjoyed a good
meal. It was a very noisy and busy hotel that first night (Rotary function).
